Medium voltage switchgear ECOS-Z
As of January 1, 2026, the use of climate-damaging sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) in switchgear for 20-kV networks will no longer be permitted. Our innovative solution: the environmentally friendly ECOS-Z medium-voltage switchgear.
The ECOS-Z features a particularly compact bay spacing of just 240 mm, made possible by a fully single-pole enclosure of the high-voltage section—including the cable connection compartment. Vacuum switching tubes are used as switching elements, while the insulation of the high-voltage components is ensured by the synthetic insulating fluid MIDEL® 7131.
Thanks to this special design, multipole arc faults are prevented—a decisive safety advantage that has been confirmed in comprehensive tests. In the event of a fault, no critical pressure increases occur, so neither the switchgear itself nor the surrounding area is affected.
The SF6-free ECOS-Z is thus the world’s first switchgear in its power class that causes virtually no pressure buildup in the event of a fault—a forward-looking solution for a sustainable and safe energy supply.
